1,244,030. Aircraft engine nacelle. SOC. NATIONALE D'ETUDE ET DE CONSTRUCTION DE MOTEURS D'AVIATION. 17 Dec., 1968 [18 Dec., 1967], No. 59868/68. Heading B1G. An aircraft engine nacelle comprising a plurality of tubular structural units 1, 2 &c. separated by gaps and suspended from the aircraft wing 15 by means of pivotal connection 17a and pivoted rod 18a, allowing small relative movement between adjacent units, has the gaps 4 &c. rendered fluid-tight by annular inflatable bags, which, when inflated, are kept in close contact with the gaps by means of trough-like elements 6 and 7 extending adjacent the gap 4. The bags may be inflated with compressed air via a nozzle (5), (Figs. 3, 5, not shown), and via a regulating valve (8) designed to connect the bag to the compressed air supply or to the atmosphere, when deflation is required. In another embodiment, the nacelle consists of a plurality of units 1a, 1b, 1c &c. having U-shaped cross-sections, and the gaps between the units are rendered fluid-tight in a similar manner; except that the inflatable bodies 30 are U-shaped and there are additional longitudinal inflatable bodies 33 of semi-circular cross-section which cover the ends of the bodies 30. The bodies 33 which rest on angle bars (34), (Figs. 8, 9, 10, not shown) attached to the inside of the units, are held there by elements (35) of matching shape and which extend along the entire length of the nacelle, thereby ensuring fluid tightness.
