A xerographic imaging methode comprises the steps of providing a radiation pattern and exposing a phosphorescent support to the pattern positioning a portion of a uniformly charged photo-conductive surface sufficiently near the support to dissipute the charge on the surface in image configuration and developing the latent image so formed with electro-scopic marking material. In one embodiment a cathode ray tube 28 generates charcters at its face 30 adjacent a phosphorescent support in the form of a roller 24 which imagewise discharges the uniformly charged photo-conductive surface of a drum 20. The support 24 and drum are driven sychronously. A viewing screen 38 permits viewing of the image formed on the support 24. The phosphorescent roller 24 may be replaced by a belt (48) Fig. 2 (not shown) impregnated with phosphors and the drum 20 by a belt (26). In another embodiment, an opaque document (62) Fig. 3 (not shown) is carried by a moving platen (64) past an aperture (69) to expose the phosphorescent roller (24).
