[Also in Division C2] A phytologically active composition comprises an alkynyl ester wherein R is C 5-16 alkyl, C 1-16 haloalkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, or a C 5-16 halo-substituted derivative thereof, and RSP1/SP is C 3-3 alkynyl or haloalkynyl. The compositions find application in stimulating development of axillary buds by killing meristematic buds. and in controlling sucker growth on tobacco plants. Typical esters used are propargyl decanoate, iodoacetate, 11-bromoundecanoate and 2-bromo-dodecanoate.
