(A) Compounds (I) where R1 = alkylene (1 to 5 C atoms), one of the C atoms at least having a hydrogen atom attached, and substituted with an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic group, which in turn may be substituted with one or more of the following: halogen, alkyl, hydroxy, alkoxy, aryloxy, carboxy, carbethoxy, carboxamido, mercapto, alkylmercapto, nitro, amino, substituted amino, or substituted sulphoxy group (alkyl or aryl sulphoxy) R2 = ethylene opt. substd. by alkyl (1 to 4C) and having the C atom adjacent to the -SO2-group having at least one hydrogen atom attached. R3 = aryl, opt. substd. by alkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, alkylmercapto or nitro. (B) Non-toxic metal and amine salts of (I), such as Na, K, Ca, Al, NH4, trialkylamines including triethylamine, procaine, dibenzylamine, N-benzyl-beta-phenethylamine, 1-ephenamine, N,N'-dibenzyl-ethylenediamine, dehydroabietylamine, N,N'-bis-dehydroabietylethylene-diamine, and other amines normally used for making salts of benzylpenicillin and phenoxymethylpenicillin. The compounds are bactericides, animal food additives, and therapeutic agents for the treatment of infectious diseases caused by micro-organisms.
