Moulding shoes - using dilatant core in cast silicone rubber mould for imitating leather surface detail

Shoes are produced using a mould prepd. by placing a model shoe in an oversize cavity primed with a vulcanisable (silicone) rubber to form an exact cavity mould for the required shaped with good replication of surface texture and detail. The mould is used in conjunction with a core which can be dilated or inflated to compress a casting or moulding resin between the core and the rubber cavity. Pref. the resin is a PVC plastisol coating or casting compressed between the core and the moulding and then gelled by h.f. heaters. An integral injection moulded sole may be added by fitting an appropriate mould base.
