Dilatant rubber moulds for fragile castings such as lipsticks - for ease of disengaging and cooling the moulding

A flexible elastic material is used for the walls of a hollow cylindrical mould from which the moulding (R) can be expelled to fit partly into a coaxially aligned holder (7). The mould is released from the surface of the moulding by either internal pneumatic pressure or dilation by a reduced external pressure. Suitable for mfr. of soft, fragile mouldings, esp. lipsticks. The mould walls (1) may be made of silicone rubber. The upper part of the mould is held by clamp which pref. also moulds a root of slightly greater diam. Use of injected air or external vacuum can also have a useful chilling effect on the moulding.
