REDUCED TEMPERATURE BATCH PROCESS FOR WET FIXATION OF CREASE PROOFING AGENT IN SCOURED FIBRE SYSTEMS AND ITS USE IN THE PRODUCTION OF DURABLE PRESS PRODUCTS HAVING IMPROVED SMOOTHNESS CHARACTERISTICS
1369671 Wet-fixing crease-proofing agents COTTON INC 31 Jan 1972 [1 Feb 1971] 3595/71 Heading DIP A batch wet-fixation process for the production of cellulosic fiber-containing material for fabrication of articles of improved durable press and smoothness characteristics comprises applying an aqueous liquid pH 1-4.5 containing 5-25% of a water-soluble hardenable crease proofing agent having reactive methylol groups, or sequentially or simultaneously a mixture of compounds each present in an amount of 5 to to 25% to a scoured wax free strip of said material in an amount sufficient to deposit thereon at least 3% of said agent based on the dry weight of said material, passing said strap at a moisture content of at least 20% based on dry material weight into a zone containing an atmosphere at a relative humidity between 80-100% and at a temperature between 50‹ and below 100‹C, rolling said material into a batch roll in said zone after the material has been heated therein substantially to said temperature, holding said roll in said zone for a period up to 2hrs and at least until the entire length of the strip being treated is rolled up to fix the agent, withdrawing the material from the zone, cooling to 45‹C or below and drying. The material may be subsequently washed, dried and impregnated with a latent catalyst. The crease proofing agents, materials treated and optionally employed cross-linkers are similar to those described in Specification No. 1258674.
