1,273,538. Staircases. J. G. KILLEEN. 19 May, 1969 [29 May, 1968], No. 25671/68. Heading E1B. A staircase comprises a steel sheet 10 or 11 bent to form a plurality of treads 12 and risers 13, the final tread being extended to form a half landing 14 or 15, and a pair of side members 16 welded to the opposite edges of the sheet. Channel section supports 17 are welded underneath the landing and are connected by a support beam bolted thereto. A series of channel section posts only one of which is shown at 19 are bolted to the side members and bannister rails are bolted thereto. In a staircase with flights at right angles the extension at the top of a flight forms a complete landing. Tread covers of hardboard, linoleum, P.V.C. or carpet are attached to the treads by bolts or clips which engage preformed holes in the treads.
