Alkali salts of aminocarboxylic acids especially nitrilotriacetic and ethylenediamine-tetracetic acids are prepared by reaction of alkali cyanides, formaldehyde and ammonia or amines with continuous removal of ammonia produced in the reaction by blowing a O-contg. gas e.g. air through the reaction mixture at reduced press. of 200-500 mm. Hg. Comparison with the normal process shows a product of increased purity.
