A laboratory autoclave for photoelectric reactions under pressures, whereby an all round radiating UV light source is immersed into the reaction medium within the reaction chamber of the autoclave. The apparatus comprises the autoclave vessel sealed by a flange, which is provided with a centre opening to which inner side a quarz glass finger type envelope is sealed by means of a gasket and ring nut and to which outer side a safety tube provided with cooling gas in- and outlet connections and electrical lead through for the UV source is sealed. The UV source is suspended from the upper safety tube and extends through the flange opening to near the lower spherical sealed end of the envelope. The gasket material sealing the envelope to the autoclave flange has a compressive strength of 4-6 kp/mm2 and is pref. a tin-lead alloy. Due to the immersion of the source within the reaction material the best possible light energy dissipation is achieved, resulting in shorter process times. Test samples can be extracted during the process.
