Wear-resistant B-rich sinter alloy useful as material for sliding contacts in engines contains 1-4%C, 0.5-2% B and =84% Fe, pref. =5% Ni, opt. =2% Mo and =3% total impurities and alloying elements other than C, B, Fe, Ni and Mo. Sinter alloys do not cause grooves on pts. on which they slide (owing to presence of Fe-B-C eutectic having 1100-1300 VH under 200 p); do not seize and require little lubrication; surface does not scale; addn. of Ni and/or Mo raises heat-resistance and strength.
