Wear-resistant P-rich sinter alloy useful as material for sliding contacts in engines contains 1-3% C, 2-7% P and =80% Fe, pref. =5% Ni, pref. =2% Mo, and it may contain =3% total impurities and alloying elements other than C, P, Fe, Ni and Mo. Sinter alloy (i) has 850 Vickers hardness (through presence of Fe-P-C eutectic) and does not groove surfaces on which it slides, (ii) does not seize and requires little lubrication, (iii) addn. of Ni and Mo raise heat-resistance and strength.
