Sulphur treatment of soil - for prevention of deficiency diseases in plants grown on alkaline soils

Treatment of plants grown on alkaline soil, characterised by adding the required amt of powdered S to the soil in the immediate vicinity of the growing plants, the required amt of S being calculated from soil analyses. The S is oxidised by soil microorganisms to give acids, which neutralises the natural alkalinity of the soil, thereby preventing lack of assimilation of chemical elements which are only soluble in neutral or slightly acid media. Deficiency diseases are prevented improved yields.
