Dyeing yarn - by spraying dye onto it as it is formed into a package

Dye is intermittently sprayed onto textile yarn as it is formed into a package and the package is subsequently treated in an autoclave to bulk the yarn and fix the dye. Pref. the package is formed by laying succeeding heart shaped coils of yarn onto a rotating support flange carrying a central spindle, the inflexion point of each heart shaped coil being adjacent the centre spindle. Pref. the dye is sprayed onto the yarn after it has been laid onto the package. A high quality randomly dyed yarn suitable for weaving is produced, and the process is economic and the yarn can be bulked in package form.
