Appts. comprises (a) a carriage moved at a suitable speed on a track parallel to the sinter strip at least up stream of the sinter mixt. firing point, (b) a spike carrier frame supported by the carriage and vertically slidable in grooves in the carriage, (c) a series of vertical spikes supported in passages in the frame, their downward movement being limited by heads or flanges whose cross section is the dia. of the passages, (d) means for sliding the frame vertically in the carriage within predetermined limits, and (e) means for pressing the spike heads against the upper wall of the frame bottom with a suitable force.
