1342031 Colouring polymers MITSUI TOATSU CHEMICALS Inc 18 May 1971 [19 May 1970] 15666/71 Headings C3P and C3R [Also in Division C4] High molecular weight organic compounds are dyed in yellow, red, pink, violet and brown shades with anthraquinone dyes of the formula where A is an anthraquinonylene group containing at least one OH and/or at least one NH 2 group and is optionally further substituted; R is an optionally substituted monovalent hydrocarbon group containing 1-18 carbon atoms and the oxazole group is bonded to vicinal carbon atoms of the anthraquinone ring. Examples 17 and 22 describe the coloration of P.V.C. using pigments of Formula I where A contains one NH 2 group and R is C 2 H 5 and styryl respectively 50 parts of pigment are kneaded with 50 parts of P.V.C. and 50 parts of dioctyl phthalate at 150‹ C. and pressed between metal plates at 160‹ C. to produce an orange coloured sheet. Example 18 and 23 describe the coloration of a mixture of 20 parts of a melamine formaldehyde resin and 50 parts of a sulphonamide resin with a dye of the above formula where R is phenyl and A is a 1-hydroxy- 4-amino-anthraquinone radical and where R is styryl and A is a 1,4-dihydroxyanthraquinone radical respectively. The mixture is molten, cooled or crushed to obtain an orange fluorescent pigment.
