The welder incorporates a system which controls the welding current in proportion to the effective pure welding force, by determination of the total work input into the chain link and subtraction from this by means of a Hall multiplier the work expended on bending the link, the result of this being represented by the size of a charge on a capacitor which is fed into a differential amplifier to which is simultaneously fed through a comparator channel a potential equivalent to the forging press. The resultant combined electrical charge is used to control the phase shifter for the welder phase angle control, which time the welding cycle. The system results in very evenly welded chain links of uniform quality.
