A horizontal conveyed tyre is picked up and transported to and from a testing or processing pt., using at least one gripping device which pivots about a vertical axis. The device has arms holding the tyre and moving radially and relative to each other with support rollers parallel to their axis to grip the tyre at its beads. The pivoting equipment has two diametrically opposite tyre gripping devices which are parallel to the turning axis and, to hold the tyre, have suspended arms. Each of the arms nearer to their axis moves radially and the other arms are rigidly fixed to the gripping device. The simple design of machine allows rapid movement of the tyre to the testing posn. regardless of its size.
