Operation of a high throughput hot air oven comprises contacting the resin with a heat-transporting gas for hardening and/or polymerising solvent-contg. plastics, partic. coating materials, which have been applied as a liquid on a substrate, partic. a metal surface, by (a) circulating the heat-carrying gas continuously in closed circuit between the oven and a mixing chamber, (b) mixing the heat-carrying gas in the mixing chamber with a corresp. amt. of waste gas produced by a reaction burner in which solvent vapour withdrawn from the oven is burnt, so as to attain or maintain its pre-selected theoretical temp.
