Lead accumulator positive plates contg. hydrophilic polymers - and higher water content, giving increased capacity and performance

Plates are mfd. by adding pref. =1% of =1 non-ionic, gel-forming hydrophilic macro-molecular substance, pref. polyvinyl alcohol or its lower alkyl ethers, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, or esp. lower alkyl ethers of cellulose to the dry lead dust or lead oxide (opt. sulphated) mixt. or to the wet mixt., using an increased amt. of water is used. Capacity of the batteries per g. of material in the plates is increased, together with performance, e.g. discharge time on the cold start test, without increased sludge formation.
