Preliminary oxidation of WC powder is much more convenient than the customary, chemical or electrochemical oxidation of the electrodes in situ in the cells. The oxidation with O2 or air is carried out simultaneously with carburisation of tungsten powder, or is performed immediately after the formation of WV powder using O2, CO2, air and/or water vapour.
