The mixed phases have the formula (I): MM'X4 (I), and contain ZrTiO4 as host lattice component, and whilst preserving the ZrTiO2-structure, electron neutrality and cation:anion ratio of 1:2, take up the following guest components: M and M', which are 1-6 valent metals with cation radii 0.40 A, and X which is O, F or OH anion. The host lattice may contain up to 50 mol.%. of the guest components. All elements can be built in, with the following exceptions: Be, B, C, Si, N, S, Se, Cl, Br and the rare gases.
