Compounds of formula (I) (where R1 is (cyclo)alkyl; R2 is alkylthio the alkyl chain of which may be interrupted by O or S, cycloalkylthio, haloalkylthio, alkenylthio, alkynylthio, alkyl-CO-CHR3-S-, alkyl-O-CO-CHR3-S-, H2N-CO-CHR3-S-, alkyl-NH-COCHR3-S-, (alkyl)2N-CO-CHR3-S- or NC-CHR3-S-; and R3 is H or alkyl) are prepd. by reacting dimethylcarbamoyl chloride with a cpd. of formula (III), the reaction being carried out in the presence of an acid binding agent or (III) being used in the form of its (alkyl)ammonium or monovalent metal salt. (I) have broad biocidal activity and are particularly useful as insecticides and acaricides. They are also active against phytopathogenic fungi, bacteria and phytopathogenic nematodes. (I) also have herbicidal activity (total or selective, depending on rate of application).
