Colouring anodised aluminium - or alloys by electrolysing in modified tin salts soln

Method of colouring Al or its alloys electrolytically by passing a current between a previously anodised article and a counter electrode in an aqs. acid soln. of a tin salt in which minor additions of other metals are made. The unmodified tin salt produces even colouration in several different shades as shown in the parent patent. The addition produces novel subtle tints while improving bath conditions, the basic colouration being provided by the tin.
