The electrical resistance of an element of terbium oxide (Tb2O3) is at a given temp a function of the partial pressure of oxygen in the atmos, so a measurement of the element's resistance can give a reading of oxygen content. A thermocouple is built into the element support so that temp can be measured and controlled precisely, and the hot junction of the thermocouple is positioned immediately next to the detector element. The detector gives fast response with consistent reliable readings and adapts readily to miniaturisation.
