1367032 Electric incandescent lamp WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 31 May 1972 [30 June 1971] 56283/73 Divided out of 1367031 Heading H1F The fill gas of a halogen regenerative-cycle electric incandescent lamp is analysed by infrared radiation before filling the lamp and the analysis compared with a fill gas of known composition. In an embodiment a mixture of Ar and N 2 from cylinder 50 is fed through heated reservoir 44 containing CBr 4 to conduits 26, 42, 52 and 54, and T-pieces 28, 37 and 40 by opening valves 27, 39, 43, 53 and 55. The proportion of CBr 4 to inert gases entrained in the pipes is measured in cell 51 by an IR analyser and compared to the proportions in a standard cell 57. When the desired proportions are obtained valves 27, 53 and 55 are closed and one or more lamp envelopes attached by a coupling member 24. The envelopes are flushed out with inert gas mixture several times using the valves 27, 32, 34. During the flushing sequence valves 27 and 36 are used to fill the envelope 10 with H 2 and the filament 16 is flashed. After the flushing sequence, the evacuated envelope is filled with the mixture of inert gas and CBr 4 and tipped off at 13SP1/SP.
