Rubber reinforced by steel wire - coated with vinyl polymer and compsn. of poly phenol-formaldehyde resin and butadiene-styrene-vinyl pyridine terpolymer
Rubber reinforced by steel wire - coated with vinyl polymer and compsn. of poly phenol-formaldehyde resin and butadiene-styrene-vinyl pyridine terpolymer
Threads for reinforcing rubber articles consist of a steel core having dia. 0.05-0.8 (0.1-0.4) mm, coated with 0.05-0.25 wt. % (w.r.t. steel wire) of a first layer, evenly distributed on steel and consisting of a vinyl polymer (I) contg. free OH and/or COOH gps., and 1-W wt. % (w.r.t. steel wire) of a 2nd layer consisting of a compsn. contg. a polyphenol-HCHO resin (II) and a styrene-butadiene-vinyl pyridine terpolymer (III) and opt. a natural or synthetic rubber. The invention is used esp. pneumatic tyres. Use of (I) improves adhesion of coating to steel core. Thin steel core wire need not be brass-plated before coating.
