The motif is applied to the curved surface of the object by first inserting in the surface of an intermediate element having at least one planar face, and by then applying the motif to the latter face. The object may be a goblet or trophy, with the intermediate element (4) used to mount the bowl (2) of the latter on the support (3). The motif may be applied directly to the planar surface or may be carried by a plaque (12) with the latter fixed to the planar surface of the intermediate element (4). The rear of the plaque (12) if pref. provided with a locating and fixing pin, with the planar surface having a hole (13) into which the pin fits.
