Precipitation surface of electro static precipator is formed from the annular walls of the air passage. Ionisation electrodes are suspended in the air stream and a high d.c. potential is maintained between these and the walls. Water is fed continuously from the top by a weir device which ensures even water feed down the walls. The top is surrounded by two circular troughs which have a constant water feed and water overflows from these down the walls. On its way down, it scavenges dust from the walls and then leaves from the bottom. This method of cleaning avoids periodic shutdown and consequent atmospheric pollution with dust.
