The tube rolling appts has a spreading mandrel with rolls parallel to its axis arranged in a frame, the frame being freely rotatable in a support shell, both the frame and support shell concentrically surrounding the mandrel. The mandrel is connected to a driving motor and has a threaded spindel. Around the threaded spindel is a planetary spindel and a nut cooperating with the planetary spindel. A coupling is provided for disconnecting the planetary spindel while allowing the mandrel to rotate. The coupling is operated when the tube spreading reaches a required value as measured by a known means.
