Chain-driven film advancing mechanism in plastics film processing machines features 2 chain stringers lying side by side; chain rollers spinning about vertical axes; and gripper thorns which pierce the film, lie parallel to the roller axes and are pref. of angular design. Used for conveying film from one working station to the next, possibly with intermittent motion to allow processing e. g. punching, forming, to be effected at the stations. The arrangement reduces wear and tear, jamming, and the rise of tensional stresses.
