The engine has a first and second piston which works in opposite facing chambers so that the two pistons can alternatively force fluid through a closed circuit to drive a motor. The pistons are double acting, the front parts facing the combustion chamber and the rear sections acting as a hydraulic pumps. During the working process part of the hydraulic medium is pushed out of one cylinder and drawn into the opposite one. Two auxiliary hydraulic pistons and cylinders are also coupled to the connecting rod coupling plate whose purpose is to offer a resistance to one certain piston during the first part of its expansion stroke which varies from a nil value when the piston is at the centre of its stroke to a maximum at the end of the stroke. The auxiliary pistons are regulated by an electromagnetic valve and an accumulator tank.
