New facing cold-vulcanised onto conveyor belt drum - by applicator roll unit transportable to mine or quarry

Appts. for rolling a new wearing face onto the surface of a conveyor belt drum, esp. a drive drum, comprises a pair of cheek plates with the rolling-on cylinder mounted between them, so that with the cheek plates flanking either end of the conveyor belt drum the rolling-on cylinder can be applied to the surface of the drum; the cylinder is rotatably mounted but axially slidable within the cheek plates; each cheek plate engages by means of a pair of guide rolls onto the inner face of the projecting rim of the drum onto which the facing sheet is to be applied. These guide rolls can be adjusted in their mutual spacing to suit the dia. of the particular drum, esp. by means of a threaded spindle and guide slits in the cheek plates. Esp. for applying a new facing onto a very large conveyor belt drum e.g., up to 1.8 m.dia. and 3 m. length, on the site, i.e., in a quarry or mine. Use of a transportable appts. for applying a continuous and uniform pressure and motion onto the applied facing sheet avoids the necessity for transporting the conveyor belt drums to the works for a new vulcanised facing to be put on. Cold vulcanising may be used.
