Cable colour coding system has hot paint applied to hot strands - to speed drying in oven before twisting strands into cable

The cable coding system, for colour coding separate strands of a cable, marks the separate strands with different colour before they are twisted into the finished cable. The paint is heated under pressure (120 deg.C at 1.5 atmospheres) and applied to the strands by spraying whilst hot. The paint temperature on application is almost equal to the melting point of the strand insulation. The strand is warmed before the paint is applied. After coding the paint is dried by heating. The drying time of this process is relatively short since the paint and the strands are pre-heated to drive off the solvents in the paint more quickly.
