The process of making communication cables includes cable stranding as the wires are passed through an intermediate storage device in which the cable is twisted in the direction and then in the other one. In the diagram showing the number of twists against time, an S-shaped curve illustrates the first twist, and a Z-shaped curve illustrates the return twist. The number of revolutions for a regular period of time is altered. It can be altered in steps or continuously.
