Motor car safety belt system consists of shoulder belts engaging the bodywork at its upper region or end, esp. on the sidewall. The shoulder belt in its upper region is connected with a metal fitting which guides it and is fitted to the bodywork to pivot like a lever. Pref. the fitting is jointed to the middle column of the bodywork, above the backrest of the seat, and has a deflection eyelet at its free end, for the shoulder belt to pass through. A hook on the eyelet suspends the belt buckle or tongue fitted to the belt lower end.
