The stepping drive mechanism for a data processor, printer or indicator has a synchronous motor mounted on an angular bracket and driving a large gear mounted on a shaft. The shaft is encircled by a series of electromagnets. An arm rotates with the shaft and sequentially touches a projection on each electromagnet. The projections delineate the drive mechanism steps. A series of radial spring contacts are broken each by one electromagnet attracting one of them towards it. The shaft has pref. a sprung sheet metal strip carrying a flap armature. A prestressed contact spring carries a contact and an insulating cam. Slip rings, with slide contacts may be provided.
