A rated value signal and an actual value signal are used to form a quotient signal, by which the last control variable to be present is influenced. The rated value and actual value signals can be conveyed to a quotient forming circuit which is connected on the output side to a logic element, to whose second input the control value supplied to the process unit is delivered after a time lag. The quotient forming circuit can form the quotient of rated value and actual value signals and the logic element can be a multiplier which multiplies the quotient signal by the time delayed control value.
