The mechanism is particularly for use in microfilm handling machine, having a first transporter delivering the sheet to a stack, and a second one conveying them to a final position, also a movable supporting base and a pressure plate for the stack. A guide is provided for the sheets delivered by the first transporter to the stack. In the vicinity of the first transporter this is bent away from the stack, and in that of the second one it runs parallel to the last sheet in the stack. The design ensures that non-overlapping sheets are stacked in the correct order. The sheet delivered to the stack is first bent, so as to produce a spring effect against the stock in the final position, and also to leave relatively large space at the lower edge for the next one.
