Petrochemical effluent disposal - by heat exchange, stripping and evaporation below atmospheric pressure

The hot and pressurized effluents of petrochemical plants contg. soot and ash in addn. to gases are treated by first recovering the greater part of their heat content in a heat exchanger before they are allowed to expand. This heat is used to evaporate a part of the expanded wash water. A stripper removes the gaseous components. Screening of decanting can be applied to eliminate the solid components. This process has much lower operating costs than thermal disposal of the pollutants. The vapours are emitted into the atmos. without odorous of toxic admixts.
