A reel is pivot mounted in a support hinged on the cutter bar, and can be adjusted in height and longitudinal direction. The front end of the support has an arm which pivots on a horizontal axle crosswise to the direction of travel. The front end of the arm has a feeler in the form of a light barrier, mechanical or electrical feeler etc. The light barrier is parallel to the pivot axis of the reel, and consists of a transmitter and receiver on each side of the support. A flexible adjustment device on the arm is fixed at the other end to a hydraulic cylinder. One end of the flexible casing enclosing the adjustment device is positioned on the piston rod of a hydraulic cylinder, while the other end is fixed to the support. The hydraulic cylinder is connected to a solenoid valve with three switch positions.
