The filter consists of a number of square or oblong sections joined together by U-shaped clsmps inserted into holes in the sections. Upward-projecting pins in the corners of each section serve to fix filter-plates placed on top of them. The section in one corner of the aquarium has a hole in for a water supply device which conducts clean water beneath the filter plate at excess pressure, so that the water flows slowly upwards through the slits in the plate. A corresponding quantity of water is extracted from the top of the aquarium. U-shaped drainage pieces are detachably fixed into slots in the plate-sections. The water-supply device has a vertical telescopic tube in two sections, with rubber sleeve inbetween. One end of the vertical tube is sealed by a plastic throttle plate.
