The circuit breaker uses pressurised sulphur hexafluoride. The light arc is truck between fixed contacts and moving pin contacts, and the clamping chamber has at least two compartments separated by an insulating partition. One compartment encloses the quenching contact points and is connected to the other compartment via a nozzle-shaped port for each moving switch pin for contact making. As the contact pins are retracted through the nozzles on contact breaking the arc extends from the first compartment through the nozzles into the second compartment, as in 2339652. The first compartment contains at least two electrodes for striking an additional light arc, used for increasing the pressure and temperature in the first compartment.
