The system contains a main store for field system programmes with a basic data generating programme for field system programme selection criteria. A field system generating programme and the basic data generating programme are transmitted to a programming computer. The main store searches the field systems programme library and transmits suitable programmes to the computer store. The main store responds to the basic data generating programme to define data for location and operation of remote terminals, and the selected field system programmes and basic data specifications are fed into computer as a final complete system configuration.
