A safety steering wheel for a vehicle has a circular rim (10) attached to a hub (15) which engages the end of the steering column by two spokes only, these spokes forming an angle between 0 and 45 deg., preferably 30 deg. Viewed fromt he side, these spokes extend some distance from the rim, and are S shaped and are made from a single length of rod material which loops around the hub, the two free ends being welded to the rim. In the event of an impacT, these S shaped spokes act as shock absorbers, allowing the rim to travel towards the hub.
