The rear surface of the photographic paper is provided with a special coating before the emulsion is added to the front. This coating is resistant to the normal processing chemicals and conditions, and is insoluble in water. When subjected to heat it becomes tacky and enables the print to be stuck into a mount or album. Thermoplastic materials or similar substances are used. The prints can be stuck into the mount without having to paste the backs, which can lead to crinkling, or without having to remove any protective film over normal adhesives. It can also be removed from the mount by reheating. The rear side of the paper may be completely or only partly coated.
