The main pipe sections are joined by short intermediate lengths of pipe. The ends of the main pipe and the intermediate pipe have grooves housing rubber sealing rings which fit inside the joint ring. The joint ring carries two diametrically opposite stirrups with transverse bolts which fit in slots in the straps. The straps are bolted to brackets attached to the main pipe and the intermediate pipe. The intermediate pipe is joined to the main pipe by two diametrically opposite straps which are equally spaced between the first straps. The joint which is suitable for pipes up to 1500 mm diameter, permits angular deflectons of up to 5 deg..
