1378059 Storing weft ZBROJOVKA VSETIN NARODNI PODNIK and VYZKUMNY USTAV LYKOVYCH VLAKEN 3 Aug 1972 [5 Aug 1971] 36267/72 Heading D1E A weft magazine 1 for a jet loom comprises a drum 27 containing a coaxial circular section guiding member 40, and into which air is injected to produce a helical or spiral flow which entrains the weft 5 in a similar path before it leaves the drum through an orifice 30. Exit holes 36 for the air are provided around part of side wall 31 of the drum, spaced in the axial direction the part of the wall 31 where the air enters. The holes 36 may extend only part of the way around the periphery of the drum, (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown). In one embodiment Fig. 3, air is injected into the drum through a tangential tube 21, through which the weft 5 also enters. Two wefts may be stored separately, by providing a further drum (1a) Fig. 16 (not shown) coaxial with and surrounding a first drum 1b, such that drum 1b acts as the guiding member 40 for drum 1a, and exit holes 36b, for the passage of air from drum 1b to 1a are provided. Two such pairs of drum may be arranged coaxially, Fig. 20 to provide storage for four wefts, the wefts leaving the device through a series of aligned holes (68-71) in a plate (67) Fig. 21 (not shown). In a further embodiment, Fig. 15, a helical plate 62 is arranged around the inside of a cylindrical drum 27, to guide the air flow and weft, a gap 64 being left between the inside edge of plate 62 and guiding member 40 to allow weft 5' to be pulled through in a straight path on insertion. In yet another embodiment, Fig. 24, pressurised air is supplied by a fan 87 mounted within the guiding member, air being driven through slots 86 in the side wall of member 40 to produce a helical flow in a single drum 27 (Fig. 22, not shown) or two coaxial drums 27i, 27j, Fig. 24, the fan supplying air to each of the drums. Weft is fed to the storage magazine 1 by frusto-conical rollers (7, 8) Fig. 1, (not shown), the feed speed being varied by traversing weft guide 1. Weft is measured by a cam operated clamp (3) positioned downstream of the storage magazine.
