1385009 Automatic control of torpedos LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS GmbH 23 Aug 1968 [12 Sept 1967] 40540/68 Heading G3R In a torpedo line-of-sight navigation control system, the control is effected initially along a wire and is effected in the final phase by a self guidances device, mounted on the torpedo and operated accoustically. If, during the wire guide phase, the wire is ruptured, the torpedo is given a course which will bring it close enough to the target to permit detection of the target by the torpedo accoustic head. The course so provided approximates to the arc of circle, during which the torpedo has a constant angular velocity. In the torpedo closed-loop-control, Fig. 2, the actual heading, #ti is compared with the desired heading #ts supplied over the wire. The differential of the torpedo actual angular velocity, derived by the differentiator 6, is multiplied by the constant, γ, and stored at 10. Upon rupture of the control wire, switch 7 is opened and the switch 2 changed over so as to apply the last value stored at 10, to the torpedo control loop thus to cause the torpedo to follow an arcuate path. In an alternative form in which the differential of the desired course is derived at the computer or the firing boat and stored on the torpedo, as in Fig. 2.
