Motor fuels comprise combustible organic liquids contg. dissolved acetylene. The fuels can be used instead of gasoline (or mixed with gasoline) in motor car aero engines. The fuels have a high octane rating a high calorific value, good antiknock properties, and impart good starting characteristics and acceleration. The organic liq. can be an alcohol, ketone, aromatic hydrocarbon, acetal, naphthene and/or alkene, or a mixt. with gasoline, and is esp. a mixt of methanol and gasoline or a mixt. of methanol acetone and gasoline. The acetylene satn. is pref. such that the Reid vapour pressure is =0.7 kg/cm2 esp. 70-80% for a 35:65 methanol/gasoline mixt.
